Institute of Ophthalmology

The Institute of Ophthalmology aims to further the understanding of the processes of vision and to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for the benefit of patients worldwide. With a staff of 200, including some 45 principal investigators, the institute has created a broad multidisciplinary environment of outstanding quality. Their excellence in fundamental science has helped establish a reputation as one of the most influential eye research facilities in the world.

As a dedicated eye and vision research institute scientists are able to integrate studies of causes and mechanisms of disease with different modalities of treatment, the underlying genetic basis of disease, the cellular and tissue processes of disease states and generic potentially therapeutic strategies such as cell transplantation and gene therapy.
