UCLC facilitated Local Partnerships project wins prestigious project management award

Dr Andrew Edkins, The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment received a prestigious award at the APM Project Managers awards 2009.

The award is in recognition of the development of a Project Directors' Development Programme (PDDP); a course to advance the leadership skills, procurement expertise and commercial awareness of project directors involved in Private finance initiatives (PFI), Public Private Partnerships (PPP) and other complex projects.

David Locke, Local Partnerships Director said: "This is a major recognition for the work Local Partnerships and University College London have done initiating and developing the PDDP and for all the work we have put in to making it such a success. The first cohort of project directors on the PDDP is responsible for leading projects that will deliver some £5.5 billion of new investment in public services, and it is important that these projects are delivered as effectively as possible."

Andrew Edkins, the academic lead from UCL comments: "We are pleased that the course has been recognised for its contribution to both the economy and to society."

Local Partnerships in conjunction with University College London (UCL) and Constructing Excellence has developed the PDDP to help address this skills gap. The programme provides project directors from the public and private sectors personal and organisational development to improve project delivery. The course enables them to understand every aspect of the procurement process and equips them with the necessary leadership, decision-making and negotiation skills to lead the development of successful PFI, PPP projects.
